I read nearly this entire book excerpt with my jaw dropped. Who would have thought that one of the most sincere and harsh critiques of our country – its government, its media, and its citizens – would come from an 80’s industrialist leader who has long been a supporter of both big business and big… Continue reading Apparantly, Mr. Iacocca Is The Leader

Remaindered links are stuff that I thought was interesting, but not post-worthy. Yes I stole it from Kottke, just like everyone else.
ASAP Story on Eye Candy
Ryan Pearson, a reporter from the AP contacted me last week about a story he was doing on the topic of gadget lust and the phenomenon of “unboxing porn,” which is far less graphic than it sounds (just photos of opening up gadget packaging). I called him up and we chatted for ten minutes or… Continue reading ASAP Story on Eye Candy
Plastique
According to Wikipedia: “The origin of the U.S. term plastique is due to the plastic explosive introduced to the U.S. by the British in 1940. The samples of explosive brought to the USA by the Tizard Mission had been packaged by SOE ready for dropping to the French Resistance and were labeled in French, as… Continue reading Plastique
Geekdad at Wired
Chris Anderson (editor in chief at Wired mag and author of The Long Tail) announced a new blog at Wired.com this afternoon: Geekdad. It looks like it’s going to be a lot of fun projects, gadgets, and advice from the point of view of dads. Needless to day, I’m excited and it (as well as… Continue reading Geekdad at Wired
Some Inspiration For This Site
A remark by Jason Kottke on his site today in how he sees his site as being similar to a bar he enjoyed in New York: “Maybe I like this approach so much because it reminds me of the way in which I edit kottke.org. This isn’t a tech site or a design site or… Continue reading Some Inspiration For This Site
Eye In The Sky
NASA’s STEREO‑B spacecraft took an amazing shot of it’s own solar eclipse late last month during the process of having it’s camera’s calibrated. The moon appears as a black disc against the fiery mass of the sun. I think that the texture of the sun is, well, other-worldly.
More Global Warming Myths I Get To Refute
I have no idea why I feel the need to respond to this sort of crap when it flies across my radar, but someone seeded a pack of ten great lies on global warming to Newsvine from Human Events. Anyway, here’s my quick whack at setting them straight (and hopefully, some links on where to… Continue reading More Global Warming Myths I Get To Refute
Calculating Floor Vibration Frequency
Resonance (by Randall Munroe aka xkcd). I love xkcd and this one is great. I calculate floor vibration frequencies all the time! (This comic reproduced under a Creative Commons A‑NC 2.5 License)
Fame: Is It Any Wonder I Reject You First
Some of you are well aware of how much I use obsess over Newsvine (a news writing and link-blog site). Recently, one of the sites more prolific users, Mykola Bilokonsky, did e‑mail interviews with a handful of other users. I was surprised that he asked me but I got a real kick out of answering… Continue reading Fame: Is It Any Wonder I Reject You First
Learning French at Hogwarts
Kottke has a post today about a fellow who recommends reading Harry Potter in a foreign language in order to help learn that language. I thought this was interesting since Angela purchased Harry Potter à l’école des sorciers over a year ago for just that purpose. Further proof that she is just way ahead of… Continue reading Learning French at Hogwarts
